If you are up to a late summer party on a boat, you have a great chance this weekend in Copenhagen

October was the month started with two of the hottest summer days, we’ve had in years. Even the city’s party organizers have been sun-inspired and keeps the late summer-like celebrations, although we actually halfway through autumn.

This Friday is the resurrected and revitalized Kill Your Telly-crew, who invites to ship party on the deck of the ferry Ellen in decorative surroundings of Holmen - in the canal behind the Opera.

The party is in very nice sorrundings with fairy lights all over the dark water channel and a view to Amalienborg and the Marble Church.

From 6 PM  there will be welcome-shots, chitchat and homemade snacks on the deck, and at 8 PM serves grilled vegetable skewer with young cattle from KontikiBar kitchen. From 10 PM:  live set from Raz Ohara and DJ sets from Peak from Berlin Club Renate – plus Emil Virile,  MHM One and Waqar.

The exclusive Shopping Mecca of food Torvehallerne at Israels Square (Israels Plads) is brand new.

About 80 shops offer everything that any heart, that beats with love for genuine culinary experiences, can possibly desire. It’s all about the highest quality and unique experiences for all your senses.

The many shops feature fresh food and cuisine from both the local and (exotic) global market. Some of the fresh vegetables and fruit are sold from outdoor stalls. Get a overview of all the shops at Torvehallerne.

Inside, you can for example buy bread and homemade cakes at Café Rosa, which is not a café but a small shop based on a rare mix of something Danish, Japanese and organic. If craving for tea Tante T is an obvious choice. Coffee lovers can quench your thirst at The Coffee Collective.

It’s possible to enjoy fresh food on the site or buy take-away like sushi from Sushilovers, fresh healthy smoothies at Vita boost and delicious specialities from the middle sea at F’éta Kai Eliés amongst others.

Fresh fish, meat, cheese, dairy products, chocolate (A xoco), spices (Krydderiet & Asa Trading) and flowers, as well as kitchen utensils are also available in the large selections of shops.

With Torvehallerne, Israel’s Square goes back to it’s origin, being a market place for fresh food, which historically was the basic function of the Square 50 years ago, right up until 1958.

The competition from the big supermarkets eventually made the original Green Market shrink over the years, to a minimum of outdoors fruit- and vegetable stalls being left on Israels Square, when the construction of Torvehallerne finally took over in 2009. The brand new buildings beautifully lift the historic legacy of Israel’s Square to new modern heights.

People’s awareness on the fact, that health, quality and good taste can be perfectly united, are increasing. It has also made an impact on the rising popularity of the “Earth-to-Table” ideology, where food is sold fresh, with direct link to the producing farms – an ideology Torvehallerne support and celebrate.

Torvehallerne is a true culinary oasis for Copenhageners, and for the picky tourist, who wants a special experience when shopping.

Louisiana Literature 2011 is a literature festival that runs for 4 days, starting Thursday the 1st of September 2011. As the name proclaims it takes place at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk, north of Copenhagen. It only takes about half an hour to get to Humlebæk by train from Copenhagen Central Station – and the museum is just about a 10 minutes walk from Humlebæk station.

During the Literature Festival the museum also provides their visitors with the opportunity to take a free bike cap in the daytime, to bring you directly to the museum.

Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is a museum of contemporary and modern art. It opened in 1958 and is situated in the most beautiful surroundings right by the sea. The museum has always welcomed writers and literary events as well as other art forms such as music and architecture.

As previous years many internationally respected authors will visit Louisiana Literature and contribute with readings, discussions and exciting artist-talks.

A few of the many great names on the program is the poet Adonis from Syria, who is considered to be the greatest living Arabic poet. The Finnish-Swedish writer Marta Tikkanen had an important role in the women’s movement in the 1970′s. She is scheduled on the program with the Danish author Dorit Willumsen under the theme “Nordic Women lives”.

Another woman who deserves special attention is German Juli Zeh, who is considered one of the rising literary stars in Germany.  The praised Karl Ove Knausgård from Norway, due to his work “My Struggle”, can be experienced as well. In all 40 writers from Denmark, Australia, Libya, China, Nigeria and the US will participate in the literature festival. The various events will be spread over different scenes in the museum and outside in the park. Music, dance, performance and entertainment for children are on the program too. Simona Abdallah, who lives in Denmark, is also worth highlighting. She’s one of the music events on the program.

Simona Abdallah is the first female musician from an Arabic background to play the Darbuka- a goblet-shaped drum, with internationally success to follow. The Darbouka is considered solely a masculine instrument, and has traditionally always been played by men. That, off course, makes Simona Abdallah’s music career quite unique. Simona Abdallah gets her musical inspiration from many genres, including House, Electronic, Pop Ambient, Oriental and World Music.

Simona Abdallah has worked with various Danish artists, for example the Danish rock legends SORT SOL. In 2010 she released her first single called “REACH OUT” and she is currently in the studio recording her first album.

Are you looking for a real cosy time?

On Saturday the 27th of August the Danish band Phoebe’s Jazz faves is on the program to provide genuine Jazz as the soundtrack to an even more cosy evening. Behind Phoebe’s Jazz faves is Mette Lathans beautiful vocal.

Plaza Hotel and Library Bar
The Copenhagen Plaza Hotel opened in 1914. Library Bar was built in the 1970s.

The Library Bar is not a music venue, but especially jazz music has nonetheless come to play a major role for the bar’s atmosphere over the last 15 years. As tradition the bar holds live jazz concerts on selected Saturdays. Stay updated by Library Bar’s Live Music Calender.

The Danish musician Thomas Blachman has recorded an album in the bar with his ensemble: Ginman – Blachman – Dahl, with the title: “At The Plaza – The Library Bar Concerts”.

The Library Bar is located on Bernstorffsgade 4.
