For the rest of the month of May we hold a “best Copenhagen picture” competition.

The Carlsberg Tour! 

The drinking of beer has always played a paramount importance to the Danish way of life and in former days breweries abounded throughout the city and was found in in every other street.

However, in the 19th centurary one particular brewery, outdid all the others and became one of the biggest manufacturers of beer anywhere in the world as well as a major player in Danish cultural life.

Come join a walking tour through the locations of Copenhagen in the footsteps of the founding fathers of the Carlsberg Brewery, the father and son J.C. Jacobsen (1811-87) and Carl Jacobsen (1842-1914). They have each left their footprints all over town for all to see even today.

Along the tour you will see where it all started in the middle of the old part of town and see some of the many landmark buildings and cultural institutions that owe their existence to the golden fluid that has been called the best beer in the world as well as such monuments as the magnificent Gefion Fountain and the world famous iconic statue of the little mermaid.

You will learn about Danish history in general, hear facts, stories and anecdotes about beer and its production, hear about the brewers ambitions and project of educating the Danes, about the feuds that marred the Jacobsen family life for generations and finally have a taste of the drink itself.

Sights you will see during the walk: the Cathedral of Our Lady; the Lure Blowers; the Glyptek Museum; the Carlsberg Foundation in Brolæggerstræde; the old Royal Brewery; the Nicolai Church; the New Habour; the Harbour Front, the Gefion Fountain, the Little Mermaid as well as many other Copenhagen sights and highlights.

Culture Night 2012 is the evening when the whole city bustles with life, entertainment, sense experiences and adventures for children, young people and grown-ups. Culture Night invites you to go on an exciting journey through Copenhagen cultural life that will give you and many other guests an experience that is a bit out of the ordinary.

Culture night will be celebrated on 12 October for the 20^th time. Museums, libraries, educational establishments, theatres, musical venues, churches and many other institutions representing art and culture will keep their doors open during the evening from six o’clock to midnight or beyond. Many of Culture Night’s 500 events are being arranged specially for this evening and so this is the only occasion on which you can experience them.

Copenhagen Art Festival will open 24. August with an event-packed programme until 2. September.

Copenhagen Art Festival, which is also known as CAF, is this year presenting an extensive programme featuring works by both upcoming and established artists from Denmark and abroad. You can experience contemporary art in public spaces, at seminars and discussion forums and at exhibitions at Copenhagen’s five art centres: Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Nikolaj Kunsthal, Den Frie Udstillingsbygning, Kunstforeningen GL STRAND, and Overgaden – Institute of Contemporary Art.

Copenhagen Cooking 2012 presents its 8th edition of the Nordic food festival with lots of culinary adventures and amazing flavors. The goal is to create a festive frame for the Nordic food culture and celebrate Copenhagen as Scandinavia center for gastronomy and unique flavors. The festival is a tribute to the Danish and Nordic cuisine, industry, chefs art, culinary traditions and excellent ingredients.

When the Copenhagen Cooking food festival, which runs from 24 August to 2 September, gets underway, it promises to be the biggest programme ever. Get ready for a gentleman’s gourmet tour, an oyster safari in the Port of Copenhagen, chocolate dinners and heavenly wine tasting.
